Mis Flores Para Tu Altar (My Flowers For Your Altar) is an ongoing project that explores altar-making in Afro-Syncretic religious practices such as Santeria and Vodou. The project employs photography, still-life compositions, and sculptures as its primary forms of expression. By capturing detailed images of religious symbols and personal mementos commonly found on Afro-Caribbean religious altars, the project aims to emphasize the cultural, spiritual, and emotional significance associated with these sacred spaces.
Using photography, Mis Flores Para Tu Altar draws inspiration from altars in various settings, particularly those in private homes, to showcase the diverse rituals and traditions. Additionally, still-life compositions provide an artistic and stylized representation of altars, focusing on their visual appeal and symbolic elements.
The project seeks to honor and celebrate these traditions' spiritual heritage and artistic expressions within Afro-Syncretic religions, offering viewers a visual and sensory experience to contemplate the cultural significance and symbolic meanings embedded within these sacred spaces. Ultimately, the goal is to create a body of work that pays tribute to Afro-Syncretic altars' spiritual and artistic richness through photography, still-life compositions, and sculptures.
